New, 38 comments

A win in Houston and the Seattle Sounders can guarantee themselves a spot in the playoffs.

Seattle

The International break will give the Seattle Sounders some extra time to get healthy, which is good news for Chad Marshall. Marshall returned to training on Tuesday and is "Ramping up" for a return to the starting lineup against Houston Dynamo.

A win in Houston against the Dynamo would guarantee the Sounders a place in the postseason.

Major League Soccer

The nickname is "The City of Brotherly Love" but for fans of the Philadelphia Union, two consecutive US Open Cup Final losses has turned Philadelphia into "The City of Eternal Sadness".

Every Major League Soccer playoff match will be on national TV. Starting with the knockout matches on UniMas then Fox Sports 1 and ESPN will split conference semi-finals and finals. MLS Cup will be shown on UniMas and ESPN.

U.S. Soccer

Growing up in the 70's & 80's my favorite American soccer player was Shep Messing. He played with the best players on the New York Cosmos and then partied with the biggest celebrities like Mick Jagger. Messing was also a front row spectator to one of the biggest tragedies of the 70's.

Jurgen Klinsmann and the USMNT had a pretty bad summer, if we had the soccer culture equal to any European country, Klinsmann would be on thin ice or gone by now. However this the USA, land of continual opportunity. that said a line has to be drawn and Landon Donovan is the one to do it.

Ten years ago, "Dos-a-Cero" was a faint dream in every US Soccer fans heart. Now the players who created the last ten years of history share their memories of the big games. If we go back to the very beginning then May 24, 1934 is the foundation of a rivalry that has become one of the most heated rivalries in international soccer.

The USA kept the goals flowing Tuesday night with a 4-0 defeat of Panama.

Don't ever ask Roy Keane a leading question: the Irishman was in rare form with the press on Tuesday.

Getting injured on the soccer field happens, but severe injuries like what Steve Zakuani went through can cause mental illness in soccer players. New research shows severely injured players suffered from depression, anxiety, distress, sleeping problems, and alcohol abuse.
