Major Link Soccer: Ready for Mexico

There's this thing at the Rose Bowl tomorrow. Messi could go to jail for tax fraud. Nemeth is rewarded for embarrassing Portland.

Seattle

Clint Dempsey's attitude on the field is pretty apparent almost always (especially when he is ripping up referee's notebooks). It all started back in Nacogdoches, where he and his friends and opponents honed their trash talking skills and were always playing hard for bragging rights.

Seattle Sounders FC continues to climb the aggregate power rankings over at RSL Soap Box, landing at number five. New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy trade places at the top.

Now Sounders fans have The NINETY (you always have to yell it) for pregame events, (as well as our USA vs. MEX viewing party tomorrow). But do we have a giant floating party barge? The Seahawks do. Maybe the Sounders fans can use it (if we can ignore the football lines).

Major League Soccer

If you haven't seen Krisztian Nemeth's goal for Sporting KC yet, you really ought to take some time to enjoy it. It just won Goal of the Week. Last Saturday, in Portland, Nemeth receives the ball, dribbles through Diego Chara (who promptly falls over), Nat Borchers (who does the same), and slides the ball into the back post for the only goal of the match. I could watch it all day.

US Soccer

USA vs. Mexico is happening, at the Rose Bowl, and there is a lot of hype. There will also be an improved security situation compared to another such Rose Bowl meeting.

Alejandro Bedoya is ready. He ought to be, since he makes all his teammates and fans at FC Nantes chant the "I believe" thing to him every day. Ok, not really. Kind of.

Don't forget that Jordan Morris and the US U23 team are taking on Honduras tomorrow as well - win and they are in the Rio 2016 Olympics. U23 midfielder Emerson Hyndman is ready to move on from Fulham (not playing will do that to you), and is looking forward to the Olympics with his country.

World

FIFA may delay their presidential election thanks to the suspensions of some of the top of the FIFA food chain - I mean after all, if Michel Platini can't run, why hold an election at all?

Lionel Messi and his father will stand trial in Spain for tax fraud, with a potential sentence including significant jail time if convicted.

And finally, it's really fun to watch this freestyle soccer star nutmeg an entire roomful of Manchester City academy kids one by one.
