Sounders mostly snubbed on MLS postseason awards

New, 51 comments

Brad Evans among three finalists for Humanitarian of the Year and Sounders are up for "Fair Play."

Mike Russell / Sounder at Heart

The votes are in for the annual Major League Soccer awards without many surprises among the finalists in the marquee categories. Perhaps doomed by their significant mid-season slump, Sounders FC players and coaches didn't make the top three for most of the performance honors. The team is still a potential winner, though, for the MLS Fair Play award, and Brad Evans is a finalist for MLS Works Humanitarian of the Year.

Despite Stefan Frei's stellar year in goal, he is not a goalkeeper of the year finalist. The award will go to Bill Hamid, David Ousted or Luis Robles. Frei put up superior stats than that group in most categories; he's near the top of MLS in both saves made and save percentage.

The winners will be announced individually over the next month, with Humanitation of the Year and Fair Play awards announced Thursday and Friday, respectively.

The awards are decided by a poll of current MLS players, MLS club coaches and staff, and journalists who consistently covered MLS this season (with the exception of the Fair Play awards, which are based on fouls committed, cards received, etc. and determined by MLS).
