We've known for a few weeks that Ross Fletcher's tenure as Seattle Sounders play-by-play voice would come to an end whenever the season did. That turned out to be Sunday night, following the Sounders' heart-breaking penalty-shootout loss to FC Dallas.

As you'd probably expect, Fletcher bid farewell with a classy message.

On a personal note, it was an absolutely pleasure to work with Fletcher for his four seasons. From the very beginning, he was accommodating and was always willing to help out whenever he could. Just a few weeks after he was hired, Fletcher came to the Nos Audietis studio and effortlessly played along with our humor. He was a regular guest on our show throughout his tenure and I consider myself lucky to have been able to call him a colleague.

I don't really know what went on behind the scenes that ultimately led to the Sounders choosing not to renew his contract, but I do know that whoever replaces him will have massive shoes to fill. Fletcher came in after Arlo White endeared himself to Sounders fans, and charmed us almost right off the bat. He made it seem easy, even though I'm sure it was not.

All I can do at this point is wish him the best with whatever he does. Whoever hires him next will have themselves a gem.
