2015 Player Profile #29: Victor Mansaray

Seattle signed Mansaray at just 17 years old. Their first dip into the high school player pool earned youth national team calls and showed that potential is an amazing thing.

Victor Mansaray scored two goals with S2, one in USL action and the other in Open Cup play. His start to the season was powerful, exciting and then he faded away. It did earn him calls to the US U18 and U20 teams. There was a ton of potential shown by the youngest ever Seattle Sounders HGP. Sometimes it is easy to forget that when he signed his contract he was still in high school. 2016 will be the first season fully dedicated to soccer. He has already started preparing for it by playing with the Sounders U18s at the Winter Showcase, where he dominated.

Rank: 29 | Age: 18 | Starts: 0 | Appearances: 3 for 28 minutes | Bench: 8 (all comps 1st team)

Offense:

Has a penchant for flair. Will drop back to pick up the ball. Favors his right foot too much, but can use it in amazing ways. Is a scoring threat at short and medium ranges. Better picking up scraps than as a target on set-pieces.

Spent time on the left wing at S2 in order to develop that left foot, but seems to do OK without that.

Defense:

Will give up quickly after a turnover. Offers nothing in support on set-pieces. A significant weakness in his game.

Physique:

Can be fast, but does not utilize that much. Has a full body that is quite strong not just his age, but for a soccer player. Should utilize speed more. Has several more years where this tool can improve.

Best Case 2016:

He's young enough that a dramatic leap can still happen. But he should be expected to be starting up top for S2 with rare minutes on the wing for the 1st team.
