Sounders will open 2016 season at home, again

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

In what is becoming an annual tradition, the Seattle Sounders will open their season at home for the eighth time in eight seasons. This time, the opponent will be Sporting Kansas City. Kickoff will be at 4 p.m. and it will be aired nationally on FoxSports 1.

The following week, the Sounders will serve as the opponent in Real Salt Lake's home opener.

The Sounders are one of four games being aired nationally on opening weekend, and each game features a 2.5-hour broadcast window.

The Sounders have gone 5-2 in previous home openers. Their two losses came to the LA Galaxy in 2011 and the Montreal Impact in 2013. In 2014, the Sounders beat Sporting KC in their home opener on Chad Barrett's stoppage-time goal.
