This week's Open Flavor Friday starts with my favorite winter beverage. It will warm your heart and your house.
- Couple cups of apple juice or cider
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 whole clove
- dash of nutmeg
- pinch of ginger
Bring to boil and then drop to a simmer. Serve as you want. Those wanting a little adult warmth should add a dark rum.
Winter Festivals
Anyone can hit up a mall for some random carolers, but a thing my wife and I like to do is head to a one of the outlying small towns for their holiday celebration. Saturday we're going to do the Enumclaw Holiday Parade. As a nighttime parade there's lots of lights, candles and fire. It will be chilly, wet and something akin to what the movies say the holidays are.
Stone Temple Pilots
Yesterday was another reminder that addiction is a terrible and tragic beast.
Scott Weiland fronted the greatest grunge band not from Washington State. His roller coaster ride with addiction lead to him twice leaving the group. When he rejoined them the first time in 2008 he said "The story's not finished. There's more to be revealed and more to be told."
Unfortunately the story is now done. Weiland did not perform at his concert last night. He was found dead at 9 PM Central.
