The MLS offseason has officially begun today, as the league has released the list of players who are either eligible for the Re-Entry Drafts or who are outright free agents.
This is the first offseason with free agency — a change added to the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiated just before the 2015 season began. To be eligible, a player must be out of contract, be at least 28 years old, and have at least 8 years of MLS service. The inaugural free agent class includes 26 players, including Sounders Chad Barrett and Troy Perkins and ex-Sounders Kenny Cooper, James Riley, and Nathan Sturgis. Other notable names include Mike Magee, Justin Mapp, and Alan Gordon. Here's the full list:

A much bigger group of 60 is eligible for the Re-Entry Drafts. As a reminder, in Re-Entry Draft Stage One, a team that takes a player must exercise a player's existing option for the next year (or sign them to an equivalent contract if they're out of contract). In Stage Two a team can re-negotiate a contract with the picked player. The Sounders are losing Marco Pappa, Zach Scott, and Leo Gonzalez to the Re-Entry Draft, though it's likely only Pappa would consider playing for another MLS team next season. Here's the full list:
