The Seattle Sounders USL-Pro affiliate, S2, had their full season schedule released today. There will be 28 games for S2's inaugural season, spanning from March through September.
Given that there are only 12 teams in the Western Conference of USL PRO, some creative scheduling had to occur. S2 will face every team twice, splitting a home and away series. However, S2 plays Vancouver and Portland a total of four times, while they play Orange County and Sacramento Republic three times. The Vancouver and Portland games will be split two home and two away matches, while Orange County will visit S2 twice and S2 will visit Sacramento twice. There are also no games against Eastern Conference teams.
"We are very excited about how the schedule turned out," S2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz said in a team release. "Knowing that we would play Portland on April 11, we had been working on a last-minute change to the schedule that would allow us to open our inaugural season against USL PRO's reigning champion, Sacramento Republic FC. Over the weekend, Portland requested the schedule change again and Sacramento was interested in coming to Seattle to play on the first day of the season, allowing us to make this change."
S2 starts off their season with their only three-game home stand of the season, facing off first against reigning USL PRO champions Sacramento on March 21, which is different from the previously reported home-opener. The following week will see Vancouver visiting Starfire on March 29, with Portland coming to town two weeks after that game on April 11. Once those first three home games are played, Seattle will embark on their longest road trip of the season, traveling to Oklahoma to play Tulsa on Thursday April 16 and two days later playing OKC on April 18. They finish that road trip with their second match against Vancouver a week later.
It's important to note that none of the S2 home games conflict with Sounders home games. For those unaware, S2 will have their home games at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, Wash. For those completely unaware, the Sounders Community Trust have a 20 percent ownership of S2, with membership to join the SCT being available at their website. Season tickets are still available, though single game tickets have not been released for sale yet, though S2's twitter points out it'll be "soon."
