Obafemi Martins' absence was just precautionary

Anytime Obafemi Martins misses a game, there's bound to be some concern. The Seattle Sounders forward is coming off a MVP-caliber season, after all, and there's every reason to think that if he can stay healthy, another outstanding campaign is in the offing.

Turns out, there wasn't much to Martins' absence from the Sounders' 3-2 loss to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.

"Oba had taken a little bit of a knock in the last game. Had it been a regular season game he could have played tonight. But as you saw, there's a number of fouls that get committed when Kansas City plays, little kicks, and we thought there was no reason to put him out there and have him get kicked on that same spot, because he had a little bit of a dead leg there. But he'll be ready to play against next week. So I think we're OK."

Similarly, Kevin Parsemain's absence wasn't anything too concerning. Schmid said the Sounders are just taking it easy with Parsemain, who had already played in two games this week and is coming off ACL surgery.
