Major Link Soccer: Earthquakes say the best US soccer venue is now in San Jose

Shots fired from happy Earthquakes owners. Talking about free agency is a "waste of time conversation." You'll never Dunkin alone?

In the Desert Diamond Cup loss to New England Revolution on Wednesday, Sigi ran with his young players and rotationals. Surely this was partly to not show his hand for Jay Heaps before the opening match of the season, but also gave those players a great chance to prove themselves. Jones and Perkins enjoyed themselves, even though the scoreline wasn't ideal.

Perhaps you missed some Sounders FC 2 signings yesterday: Amadou Sanyang and Duncan McCormick are the first official Tukwila Mockingbirds.

Don't forget to pick up some Sounder at Heart gear to wear while you build your fantasy teams to play in the Sounder at Heart league!

Major League Soccer

Here's your obligatory CBA update: nothing has changed. Some things are settled, others are not. Some type of player freedom of movement is still holding up the works, and there's only a week left to do something about it. The possibility of a fairly short strike seems pretty real at this point.

Here's a thoughtful take from the perspective that MLS should be focused on making the league attractive for players, and that means more than just a paycheck.

RSL's owner calls talks of free agency in a single-entity league a "waste of time conversation." It turns out saying stuff like that in the middle of an ongoing negotiation is expensive.

The Earthquakes' new stadium is nice, but is it the best soccer venue in the country?

Orlando City SC is almost out of its 14,000 season tickets.

Speaking of new MLS teams, NYCFC should be getting a young English defender from the parent club on loan. (Unless of course he starts playing well or something).

The Mexican Football Federation would like Don Garber to know that San Antonio would be a nice place for an expansion team.

The New York Red Bulls continue to do things: Jesse Marsch is joined by former teammate Chris Armas on the coaching staff. Bradley Wright-Phillips tells the New York Post he's not letting the haters get under his skin. And then there's rumor-mongering about Russell Crowe, Leeds United and teams named Red Bull.

If you need a recap of Europa League action (both on the pitch and unfortunate events in the stands) look no further.

Very rich people continue to mess up global soccer competitions. Since the 2022 World Cup will be in Qatar in the winter, the Confederations Cup will be moved to "another Asian country," so Brazil doesn't yet know where they will be hoisting the trophy.

They found a big WWII bomb near Borussia Dortmund's stadium, and luckily it didn't explode.

This is why you check the meaning behind a symbol or crest before you go trading stuff out for, you know, iced coffee.
