Don't worry, even though we aren't in first for the first time in I can't remember how long, we will be back. I take full blame because I wasn't able to watch the game. To get your mind off that though, here's all the other games of the week.
Friday 3/13
Houston Dynamo 0 - Orlando City SC 1: Orlando gets their first win in MLS, beating Houston. After a terrific performance last week by Tyler Deric, it was an own goal by Deric that was Houston's downfall this week. Another week where Orlando City is involved in disappointing a sellout home crowd, this time by taking the points from Houston.
Saturday 3/14
Chicago Fire 0 - Vancouver Whitecaps 1: Our neighbors to the north went on the road and got all three points. In yet another card-heavy game this season (six total yellows), Vancouver was able to get the edge when Rivero scored in the 86th.
Columbus Crew SC 2 - Toronto FC 0: Columbus gets the first home win of the weekend, beating the US National Team. I mean Toronto. Justin Morrow's red just before halftime changed everything as Columbus took control of the second half with Justin Meram and Kei Kamara getting goals.
FC Dallas 3 - Sporting Kansas City 1: Blas Perez again looked good, netting two goals against a Besler-less SKC defense. SKC kept the pressure up for most of the match but Dallas looks good this year. And without Besler, Sporting's backline isn't strong.
Real Salt Lake 3 - Philadelphia Union 3: Six goals. Six substitutions. Seven yellows. Exciting game, right? Included in those goals are an own goal and a PK. For Philly this was great: One point on the road against a tough Salt Lake squad. RSL has to feel good that they at least took a point, but for a team used to being near the top getting only two points from the two matches is disappointing.
Sounders FC 2 - San Jose Earthquakes 3: Again, I'm taking the blame here. I was in San Francisco and missed the match. In case you haven't read a recap on the site yet, we lost after being up a man.
Sunday 3/15
New York City FC 2 - New England Revolution 0: NYCFC gets their first win in their history. Playing in Yankee Stadium, because there are no football stadiums in NY. David Villa picked up a fairly early goal, then there was a red for Goncalves in the second half, followed up by former NE Rev Patrick Mullins scoring in the 84th to seal the deal. For a team with MLS Cup aspirations, the Revolution have crashed out of both games this season.
"Draw City USA" (Portland) Timbers 2 - Los Angeles Galaxy 2: The two teams we love to hate played in Draw City USA. Guess what happened? Exactly, Portland gave up the tying goal in extra time to Alan Gordon. Other than that, you were probably distracted by filling out your NCAA tournament bracket during this match.
While we may not be in first anymore, we only fell to third in the West. Dallas is the only team with a perfect six out of six points this year.
