Seattle
The Seattle Sounders have a bye this weekend, but they will be in action on Tuesday March 24th against Club Tijuana in an International friendly. If you feel like getting to Centurylink early, the Sounders U18 Academy will kick off against the Xolos U18 Academy at 4:30pm on the XBOX pitch.
One Sounders Academy player has been called into the Honduran National Team Camp.
MLS
Start recruiting now (oh wait Chris Henderson's already on it.) Come 2018 Cristiano Ronaldo will be bringing his goal scoring exploits to the MLS, at least that's what the report says. Our own Ethan Swenson wasted no time working to recruit the Ballon D'or winner. #RonaldoWatch
If you're starting college in the fall of 2015 you might want to look into running a soccer club, or at least getting a degree in it. In an announcement last week between the Colorado Rapids and the University of Colorado, a new business degree specializing in soccer will be offered.
The Colorado Rapids have sold Deshorn Brown to Valerenga of the Norwegian First Division.
The Montreal Impact can open the door to the CONCACAF Champions League Final with a win tonight. If Montreal advances, it would make them the fifth MLS team to reach a final, with the LA Galaxy being the only MLS team to win.
US Soccer
Two US internationals are still in the running for the FA Cup, Daniel Williams and Reading head to Wembley Stadium after a 3-0 victory over Bradford City. It will be a tough time for Reading as they drew Arsenal as their opponent. Brad Guzan and Aston Villa will play in the other semifinal against the winner of Liverpool and Blackburn.
Gedion Zelalem is in the process of becoming a US citizen; Jurgen Klinsmann has stated he is ready for a starting spot on the USMNT now. Germany has other ideas about the youngster and has called him in to their U18 National Team camp.
In 1989, JP Dellacamera was on the call when the US qualified for its first World Cup in 40 years, he was behind the mic when the US women won the 1999 World Cup on home soil, and it was his voice we heard when the US ended Spain's 35-game two-year unbeaten streak. Why haven't we heard more of the original voice of US Soccer?
Thirty years ago the perspective of US Soccer did not look like it does today. In today's world the professionalization of youth soccer in America is very evident. MLS & USSDA academies, residency programs, full time youth national teams, and youth World Cups at 3 different age levels.
The US U17 team qualified for the 2015 U17 World Cup on Monday. This is the first time since 2011 that the US has qualified.
World Soccer
Qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia has started, and Bhutan (the lowest ranked team in FIFA at 209th) has moved past the first round.
Refereeing is a tough job, you get yelled at, ridiculed, and scrutinized from every direction. Except if you ref in Brazil, in Brazil the refs yell back when you dive and look for a call. Of course in Greece a dive can get you a penalty.
Arsenal went out a winner, but that doesn't get you a winner's medal. Arsenal beat Monaco Tuesday 2-0, but were not able to overcome the away goal rule. in Tuesdays other game, Atletico Madrid beat Bayern Leverkusen in penalties with Fernando Torres hitting the winning kick.
