KICK TV's Jimmy Conrad traveled to London to catch up with DeAndre Yedlin at White Hart Lane. They chatted about the striker he's most excited to face, adjusting to the team and to London, his World Cup experience, his favorite hairstyle and the advice he received from Seattle Sounders teammate Clint Dempsey. Here are a few interview highlights.
On settling in: Yedlin said he has been spending the last three to four months getting used to the guys and the style of play, and adjusting to driving on the other side of the road and different kinds of food. Fun fact: Yedlin notes that his favorite British food is a fishcake.
On Dempsey's advice: Conrad asked Yedlin whether Dempsey gave him any advice on joining Tottenham, his former team. "Just to enjoy it," Yedlin said. "This club is one of the best, and every day is going to be a battle, but that's what you get paid for. Make it fun, be positive, and just do your best."
On Kyle Walker: Yedlin noted that he and Walker, currently starting at right back, are very similar players -- both on and off the field -- and that he's been trying to emulate some of the other things that have made Walker successful, like what time he starts and ends his day, what he eats, and how he trains. Yedlin also notes that Walker "has probably been my closest friend at the club."
On the World Cup: Conrad reminisced about the World Cup and asked Yedlin which defender he modeled his game after. Despite having a fellow USMNT defender interviewing him, Yedlin said current USMNT teammates DaMarcus Beasley and Fabian Johnson. Yedlin also said Eden Hazard is the best player he's ever had to go up against. "Playing against him gave me a lot of confidence coming into the next steps of my career."
