Clint Dempsey won’t be available, but other injured Sounders might

Osvaldo Alonso, Chad Marshall and Tyrone Mears all at least possible for facing FC Dallas.

We won't know for sure until the lineups are announced -- or at least until some photos of the traveling party surface -- but it sounds like Clint Dempsey might be the only Seattle Sounders player to miss Saturday's match due to injury. Although Dempsey was effectively ruled out, injured teammates Osvaldo Alonso, Tyrone Mears and Chad Marshall all at least seem possible against FC Dallas.

"They went through training today with no issues," Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid told the media after Wednesday's training, the team's final session before boarding a flight on Thursday. "We feel pretty good about them."

Alonso has not played in either of the Sounders' first two league games and missed all of preseason training after undergoing surgery to repair a torn groin muscle. Tyrone Mears left the Sounders' last league match with a hamstring strain and Marshall sat out the friendly against Club Tijuana with a similar injury. The Sounders will also be missing Marco Pappa, who is with Guatemala on international duty.

Marshall's absence would likely be the toughest to deal with as the Sounders seem perfectly capable of shifting players around and calling on some of their reserves to fill the other absences. Cristian Roldan and Aaron Kovar were two players who looked particularly strong against Tijuana.

"We know we have the quality," Schmid sad. "That's what we saw in the Tijuana game."
