DeAndre Yedlin makes Tottenham debut

New, comments

Sounders product logs 11 minutes, but can't keep Spurs from losing to lowly Aston Villa.

Let the record show that DeAndre Yedlin made his Premier League debut on Saturday, April 11, 2015, entering as a 79th minute substitute for Vlad Chiriches. In doing so, he became the first product of a MLS academy to play in the English Premier League. That it came in a 1-0 loss to relegation-battling Aston Villa will surely temper the reaction from Tottenham Hotspur fans, but for those of more interested in Yedlin's progress it is a moment to remember.

Yedlin's debut was not entirely without memorable moments. One of Yedlin's first actions was going shoulder-to-shoulder with Christian Benteke, and although he was called for a foul he held his own with the Premier League veteran. His first notable action was slipping while defending Fabian Delph on an Aston Villa breakaway. Luckily, Michel Vorm was able to make the 85th minute save. In the 89th minute, Yedlin had his one semi-highlight, sending a good entry pass into the box. Although it was controlled by Roberto Soldado, Federico Fazio's shot was ultimately blocked. Yedlin was credited with three passes on the day and one blocked pass.
