Clint Dempsey was left off the United States' roster for Wednesday's friendly against Mexico after suffering a hamstring injury, but the Seattle Sounders weren't left entirely intact. Brad Evans received a somewhat surprising call up and will be joined by Sounders Academy products Jordan Morris and DeAndre Yedlin.
Although Evans was part of the January training camp, he did not play in any of those games after leaving early with an injury. In fact, the last time Evans played for the USMNT was on Feb. 1, 2014 and he's only made three USMNT appearances since the end of World Cup qualifying in 2013. Evans made six starts during the USMNT's World Cup qualifying campaign, playing a key role in Hex and at one point seemed a solid back to go to Brazil.
Morris continues to get calls despite effectively being the only amateur during the MLS era to be regularly involved in the senior team setup. This is the fourth time Morris has been called in and he's already picked up a pair of senior team caps.
