Sounders 2 take a point from Whitecaps 2

Sounders 2 play to a 1-1 draw in Vancouver. Goals from Robert Earnshaw (VAN) and Nick Miele (S2).

S2 (10 points, 3-2-1) wrapped up their road trip in Canada, playing to a 1-1 draw against Whitecaps 2 (5 points, 1-3-2) at UBC Thunderbird Stadium. In the clubs' first meeting, S2 ran over Vancouver with a 4-0 victory, today though was just a shell of that match. At home Vancouver was able to dominate long stretches of play and test Charlie Lyon time and time again, who held strong to keep S2 in it.

The first half started quickly with Darwin Jones appearing to put the Sounders on the board with a header from an Aaron Kovar cross in the 14th minute. Impossible to tell on YouTube, Jones was called for offsides. Two minutes later a poor back pass from Damion Lowe was stolen by Robert Earnshaw, who calmly chipped it in past a helpless Lyon.

We did not have to wait long for more fireworks when S2 found the back of the net off a 24th minute corner. Aaron Kovar sent one in near post that Andy Craven headed across the face of goal for Nick Miele to tap in, which ultimately turned out to give S2 a share of the points.

The second half was controlled by Vancouver. S2 had very few opportunities with the biggest one coming when Jones beat Whitecaps 2 keeper Paolo Tornaghi around 25 yards out. Jones tried to chip it in from the left edge of the box but slipped and missed wildly. S2 were lucky to not give up another goal after multiple poor clearances and a Lowe yellow card in the last ten minutes. Lyon came up strong making a handful of great plays late to keep S2 alive and eventually sealing the draw.

S2 play next weekend, May 1st, against the Orange County Blues back at Starfire.
