Major Link Soccer: Sounders climb the power rankings

Roldan is ready for potential U20 World Cup challenge, how MLS will win CCL, and how to fix Europa League.

First and foremost, it's very important that no one misses this picture from an Anthrax concert:

Garth Lagerwey did a lot of wheeling and dealing on draft day to land Cristian Roldan, and the move has already paid off in significant MLS minutes for Roldan right out of the gate. After his callup to US U20 camp, will he be the latest young Sounder to burst onto the international stage at the U20 World Cup this summer?

CONCACAF Champions League

Plenty of takes on Montreal Impact's late collapse at home in the CCL final continue to surface. The Impact certainly recognized they had a tough hill to climb despite their unlikely away draw, and conceded that they lost to a better team with many million-dollar players. It's not just about the money or salary cap but how the full budget is distributed among a team that separates MLS and Liga MX. Would eliminating the draft and adding more free agency help? Club América's coach believes MLS is improving and MLS' Matthew Doyle sees teams with high-quality homegrown depth with the best chances going forward.

It was a great event for the Impact, packing the stadium with fans hoping for the unlikely underdog win. But the match also put up some impressive TV numbers. About 1.9 million watched on TV, which would have taken second in cable sports viewership, beating the Brooklyn vs. Atlanta NBA playoff game, but most of it's viewers were on network station Unimás.

US Pro Soccer

The MLS Power Ranking roundup at RSL Soapbox has the Sounders sitting pretty in 2nd, jumping two spots since last week but still placed behind New York Red Bulls, who haven't budged from number one for several weeks.

Another installment of an analysis of how "proactivity" in style relate to success in MLS, at American Soccer Analysis.

Diego Fagundez is 20 years old, and this is his fifth season with the New England Revolution. That's pretty amazing, and this profile on the young star is an interesting read.

Twitter trash talk before a match is always fun. But when it's between two sisters who will face each other this weekend in NWSL action, it can get pretty personal (and pretty funny). Witness #MewisVsMewis.

Major Arena Soccer League ownership held a meeting (at a hospital, for some reason?) to make changes and plans to the league rules and structure. A 20-game season and consistent scoring system are two big takeaways.

World Soccer

Fox Sports has gathered a bevy of former international stars and analysts to call and comment on the upcoming Women's World Cup, many of whom are veterans of past ESPN broadcasts.

Bayern Munich has signed a broadcast deal with Univision Deportes, giving American fans more access to the German powerhouse and the Bundesliga.

Europa League is a mix of Champions' League also-rans and overstretched underdogs, and ESPNFC has several ideas on how to increase its stature and excitement.
