A tweet on Monday pictured Thomás Jaguaribe Bedinelli doing some business in the Sounders offices but was quickly deleted, and today more details of the deal have emerged. Thomás will reportedly join the Sounders on loan from Brazilian club Flamengo, where he is under contract through 2016. The attacking midfielder is coming off of loans to Serie A and the Brazilian second division.
Thomás is an exciting prospect at 22 years old, with experience in technical leagues from his previous loans (though he had little first-team time in Italy). It's likely that the former Brazilian youth international will spend time on S2, though it seems he'll occupy a senior team roster spot.
This brings Seattle's available roster spots down to two, and Thomás would take up the last available International Slot. He appears to be a creative player who can play from the wings or underneath a more advanced striker, with plenty of potential to be an effective player in Major League Soccer, but fans will have to wait and see.
No official announcement is expected right away, as paperwork is still pending.
Thomás himself has tweeted out a goodbye to the club where he spent his last loan stint, Associação Atlética Ponte Preta:
Obrigado AAPP. Deixo grandes amigos e desejo o melhor para a instituição sempre. Foi um enorme prazer vestir essa camisa. #macacaquerida
