Major Link Soccer: S2 start Open Cup journey

Seattle Sounders FC2 will play Kitsap Pumas tonight at Starfire with the winner taking on either the Portland Timbers II or the Michigan Bucks May 27.

Replacing Obefemi Martins in the Seattle Sounders starting lineup is hard to do, but for Chad Barrett it was like a walk in a BC park. Barrett's two goals and hustle earned him "MLS Player of the Week" honors.

The Seattle Sounders FC2 haven't lost a game at home in their inaugural season. Tonight will be their first game in the US Open Cup and they hope to keep the winning streak alive.

The Seattle Sounders Academy is winding down league play. The U16's currently have a playoff wild card spot with four games to play, and the U18's sit in first place going into their final four games of the season. Meanwhile the U14 team is on a European sojourn in Iceland and France.

The Tacoma Stars will be back in the MASL starting in November with new ownership and partners. Darren Sawatzky will return as head coach of the indoor team and games will be played at the ShoWare center in Kent.

Major League Soccer

When MLS teams draft players they expect the player will be able to come in, sign a contract, train, and earn a spot on the team. For Joseph Greenspan and the Colorado Rapids it wasn't that simple.

American Soccer analysis has ranked the "Top 50" players in MLS with a total score based on eight different categories. The top ten is a who's who of Designated Players.

Now that LAFC has plans to build their stadium they will turn their focus on building a club identity and an academy.  LAFC is also in talks with their fans about the team name, team colors, and team crest. Sounds like they still have it all to figure out?

Entering MLS in 2017 is Atlanta. Carlos Bocanegra and the gang are currently working on creating a "Soccer Culture." The team will announce their name at this summer's Gold Cup. While on the subject of  expansion the MLS commissioner Don Garber was in St Louis discussing how it is a great soccer market.

Watching your child play soccer starts at a young age and if you're lucky lasts until high school or college. For Chris Wondoloski's dad, watching his son score 99 professional goals has been a "magical experience".

U.S. Soccer

This summer in New Zealand the U.S. U20 team will be showcasing some serious talent. The team had a warm up game on Tuesday against Australia.

It has been a debate for every talented youth soccer player since 2007; play USSDA academy soccer or play high school soccer?

A Boulder Colorado pub team will be competing in the second round of the US Open Cup tonight instead of passing pints around the bar. Harpo FC advanced past BYU Cougars in the first round thanks to a big save from their goalkeeper Zac Gibbens.

World Soccer

If your team is in need of a talented speedy winger/forward Raheem Sterling is looking for a club. Sterling told Brendan Rodgers that he wants to leave the club; of course money could be the deciding factor. Duh!!

Another player seeking work comes with some baggage; Xavi Hernandez is carrying 8 La Liga titles, 3 Champions League titles, 2 European Championship titles, and a World Cup Title. Will he find work?

FIFA is going to make some new rules (hold your tongue) this could be good for U.S. Soccer. The new rule would prevent continental confederations from bidding on the next two World Cups after hosting.

Some games heat up faster than others and then there are the games that wait until the very end to literally get the blood moving. For one referee in Peru, sending off four players in three minutes earns him praise and congratulations.
