Major Link Soccer: Wednesday is Soccer Skip Day!

If ever there was a day to play “hooky” from school and work for soccer, today would be that day, Dnipro vs. Sevilla in the Europa League Final at 11 a.m., S2 vs. T2 in the Open Cup at 1 p.m., and Seattle Sounders vs. Colorado Rapids at 7 p.m.

Seattle

Winning the US Open Cup has become a tradition for the Seattle Sounders, and that winning tradition has carried over to Sounders 2. The winner of today's third round match between S2 and T2 will travel to Sandy, Utah and take on Real Salt Lake in the fourth round.

With the Seattle Sounders taking on the Colorado Rapids tonight, we have 3 Key Matchups to watch for during the game, and our own Sassy Susie's data/graph that breaks down all the numbers you need to prep. One thing we do know is that Obafemi Martins will return to the lineup.

The MLS Power Rankings are out and the Seattle Sounders maintain the top spot for another week. With three games in nine days next week could be a different story.

Major League Soccer

On July 28 the MLS All-Stars take on Tottenham Hotspur, but before that game fans can show up early and watch the "Chipotle Homegrown Game," featuring young MLS stars opposing Club America's U20 team. Will we see Victor Mansaray or Cristian Roldan in that game?

We know this year's All-Star Game will be at Dicks Sporting Goods Park, but in 2016 word has it that San Jose's new Avaya Stadium will be the host.

Oguchi Onyewu (or the "Gooch" as he is affectionately called) has been off the soccer radar for some time, but fear not: the man who once took on the great Zlatan has been training with New York City FC.

Something needed to change and now with the affiliation between USL and MLS, youth development in America has just been given that shot in the arm it desperately needed.

U.S. Soccer

The U.S. Open Cup allows teams from every level of American soccer to compete for a trophy. Chula Vista FC and PSA Elite are both amateur teams taking on pro sides in today's third round.

Saturday the U20 World Cup will kick off in New Zealand. The U.S. team is grouped with the hosts New Zealand, Ukraine, and Myanmar. Will any of these 11 future stars have a break-out tournament?

The USMNT team has a full summer schedule; things start June 5 in a match with Holland, then five days later they take on World Cup Champions Germany. Germany has announced they will not be at full strength for that match.

The U.S. Open Cup has gone to a regionalization format this year, and that change has coaches and fans upset. The Goat Parade has found "Solutions" to make everyone happy.

World Soccer

FIFA officials have been arrested in Zurich, Switzerland and could be extradited to the U.S. to face corruption charges. New United States Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch (who previously supervised the FIFA investigation) will hold a press conference Wednesday to discuss the case. Will Sepp Blatter have comment Wednesday?

Today's Europa League Final between Dnipro and Sevilla could be a very interesting match, but if Dnipro plays like they have during the previous rounds, expect the game to end in a shootout after extra time.

Yesterday we heard that Russia was going to use prison labor for the 2018 World Cup, today we read that Russia cuts the 2018 World Cup budget by $70 Million dollars.

Carlo Ancelotti was let go on Monday as coach of Real Madrid, and Rafa Benitez looks to be the next anointed one for the Madristas. Ancelotti could be welcomed home with open arms elsewhere.

The fact that Jonathan Bornstein scored his first goal in six years won't surprise many fans given the fact he has only played in 23 games during that time, but the goal happened to put his team Queretaro in the Liga MX Final and now the former US National Teamer is the talk of the town.

In soccer there are no timeouts, huddles, or breaks. Sure, you can catch your breath on a throw-in or substitution but mostly a game is 90 minutes of action. One keeper tried to get a "water break" during a game recently and as the video shows he slyly tosses his water bottle to the ground after the other team scores.
