Jordan Morris among 35 players named to provisional USMNT Gold Cup roster

Brad Evans, Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin makes it four players with Sounders ties who could potentially play for a spot in the Confederations Cup.

Jordan Morris was among the more notable names to be listed on the United States national team's provisional 35-man roster for this summer's Gold Cup. If the Seattle Sounders Academy product is among the 23 players named to the final roster, he would become the first amateur to suit up for the United States in a FIFA competition during the MLS era.

Somewhat expectedly, Brad Evans and Clint Dempsey were the only current Sounders to be named to the provisional roster. DeAndre Yedlin was also listed.

The Gold Cup kicks off on July 7 with the United States playing Panama in the group stage and runs through July 26. The Sounders have three league games scheduled during that time as well as a match against D.C. United on July 3 and another against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Aug. 1. The quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup are July 21-22. Further depleting the Sounders' roster, Marco Pappa will likely be playing in the Gold Cup with Guatemala.

In the previous Gold Cup, US manager Jurgen Klinsmann did not bring in all his first-team players for the group stage, instead holding them out until the knockout phase. If he elects to do that again, someone like Dempsey may only miss the July 18 match against the Colorado Rapids and the July 25 match at the Montreal Impact.
