The Sounders already had two players named the provisional Gold Cup roster for the USA with Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans and now Marco Pappa will likely be leaving for the Gold Cup. Guatemala released their 35-man roster minutes after we learned about Deuce, Evans, and Jordan Morris, and as expected Marco Pappa will be called upon to run the Guatemalan attack.
Pappa has become a standard in national team games for Guatemala and the Gold Cup will be no different. While being on the provisional roster does not guarantee a spot in the final 23-man squad that will be announced on June 23, in Pappa's case it is about 99.9% guaranteed. Only two other MLS players were named to almost exclusively domestic roster, with Moises Hernandez (FC Dallas) and Elias Vasquez (Real Salt Lake). Only eight players total, three being in MLS, apply their trade outside of Guatemala.
Guatemala is in Group C with Mexico, Cuba, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Be sure to watch the Honduras National Team, who's in the US group, as eight of their players on the 35-man roster are from Sounders CCL opponent, CD Olimpia.
