Major Link Soccer: Sounders 1 & 2 crash out of the Cup

Officiating was the common denominator for the Seattle Sounders 1 & 2 Tuesday night as both teams crashed out of the U.S. Open Cup.

Seattle

Seattle Sounder2 started strong stringing passes around the park against Real Salt Lake even taking the lead 1-0 off a nice Sam Garza goal. Poor officiating was a theme in this match and Seattle ultimately paid the price.

The Seattle Sounders Portland Timbers game was something you don't see every day. 3 red cards, a jersey change, and a star stretchered off the pitch all lead to Seattle's first defeat at Starfire.

Lamar Neagle is up for "MLS Goal of the Week" do you part and vote.

Having a full CenturyLink stadium chanting "Seattle Sounders" in unison is a pretty cool environment. The Seattle Sounders will be opening the stadium up to full capacity on August 1st & 30th and October 4th & 25th against western conference rivals.

Major League Soccer

Soccer, faith, and community service is all in a day's work for Zach and Casey Loyd. Dallas soccer club Vickery United is where the Loyd's have quickly begun to make a difference in the refugee community.

Major League Soccer instituted a new rule for the 2015 season "League rules mandate that hydration breaks be taken if the temperature reaches 89.6 degrees or higher". Last Sunday in Orlando this new rule was used during the LA Galaxy Orlando City game.

Major League Soccer's growth is on the up in terms of teams, soccer specific stadiums, and fans. The level of play is improving, academies, USL teams, and TV contracts have all helped bring the league to its current level. Can that growth be sustained or is 24 teams enough, does MLS have to be on par with the big 4 sports in America to be considered a success?

U.S. Soccer

The USWNT knew they were through to the next round before the game was played, but going through as group winners was the goal all along. An Abby Wambach goal just before halftime secured the win the USA needed.

World Soccer

World Cup Qualifying isn't easy but for Guam It's a David vs. Goliath story in terms of population, Guam 165,000 vs. India 1.2b and yet the tiny nation of Guam has come out on top 2-1 in Tuesdays World Cup Qualifier.  This is Guam's second win in a week previously defeating Turkmenistan. Former WSYSA Technical Director Gary White leads the Matao and former Seattle Sounder Doug Herrick is the starting goalkeeper for Guam.

Radamel Falcao will not be leaving England and the Premier League after all; he will however be changing teams. Falcao was loaned to Chelsea on Tuesday for only 4 million pounds.

$5.7 Billion in revenue in four years, $2.6 billion in profit from the 2014 World Cup, $2.4 Billion in television rights, more in sponsorships and tickets. The FIFA World Cup is a cash cow but now it could be milked dry by the U.S. Department of Justice.

As they say nothing is more certain in life than death and taxes, but for Chuck Blazer that might not be true.  The former FIFA executive  Blazer has cheated both of them and lived to tell the tale, now that tale can be read by everyone as his plea agreement was released to the public on Tuesday.

AC Milan have sacked manager Filippo "Pipo" Inzaghi and hired Sinisa Mihajlovic. Mihajlovic was once quoted with saying "I'd rather die of hunger than manage il diavolo" (nickname for AC Milan) I am sure he will be warmly embraced by the fans.

Goal of the week Nominees: Wilshere's Wonder, Souza Stunner, and a Back Heel.
