Marco Pappa scored his first goal of the season with a beautiful right-foot chip from the top of the box against Colorado, and now he is being recognized with MLS Goal of the Week. The win marks the Sounders 4th win in 13 weeks, but the first by a non-Clintafemi player. Sounders lead the league when it comes to goals scored (20) and Goal of the Week awards (4), with the next closest teams Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City having two each. Pappa took home 34.08% of the vote, which was about a 5.5% lead on Gershon Koffie.
Stefan Frei would not be outdone on the field nor on the interwebs, as he completed the Sounders sweep of weekly awards, bringing home Save of the Week. Frei's 62nd minute save against Mike Grella may not have been to preserve a shutout, but it did save the match for the Sounders and prevented the team from going down two-nil. Frei brought in 36.02% of the vote, giving him about a 15% lead on David Ousted. This marked Frei's second Save of the Week win, also winning in week 9. The Sounders lead in goals against (10), but Frei is not the leader in Saves of the Week as Tyler Deric started the season off with three of the first four.
With the likelihood of key players missing this weekend, these two should probably just plan to have showstopping performances again to get the three points.
