Sounders-Timbers U.S. Open Cup tickets go on sale today

A limited number of tickets being made available to general public at 3 p.m..

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

We're all quite aware that the Seattle Sounders-Portland Timbers rivalry is widely considered to be the most heated in MLS. We also remember the last time that rivalry was staged in the U.S. Open Cup at Starfire Soccer Stadium, when the Sounders beat the Timbers with a pair of extra-time goals last year. We probably are even aware that another one of these epic battles is scheduled for June 16.

But did you know you can still buy tickets?

Although season-ticket holders and various supporters' groups have already been given first crack, a limited number of tickets still remain. Those tickets will go on sale on Friday at 3 p.m. Tickets start at the perfectly reasonable cost of $20 and can be purchased here. It's probably not a good idea to wait too long on buying those, either, as they tend to go quite quickly.

The winner of the match will advance to the fifth round of the U.S. Open Cup to play an undetermined opponent.

The same day, S2 will be playing at Real Salt Lake.
