After two 1-0 games to open the 2015 Women's World Cup, Day 2 will feature teams from Group B: top-ranked Germany, who takes on Côte d'Ivoire, and Norway and Thailand (nickname: The War Elephants).
The Norway v. Thailand match kicks off at 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX, and the Germany v. Côte d'Ivoire match will air at 1:00 p.m. PT. That match can also be found on FOX.
Players to Watch
- Côte d'Ivoire (FIFA Ranking: 67): The Ivory Coast is one of the more balanced teams, and had 9 different players score in the World Cup qualifying matches. Forward Josee Nahi has 12 goals in 18 international caps and is referred to as the female Emmanuel Adebayor by fans.
- Germany (FIFA Ranking: 1): Germany is without one of their best players, Nadine Kessler, due to an injury. Celia Sasic is certainly capable of filling that void. Sasic has 57 goals in 104 caps and just helped Frankfurt win the UEFA Women's Champion League. Germany is also a disciplined defensive team, so don't expect them to give up many goals.
- Norway (FIFA Ranking: 11): Norway has a lot of attacking talent. That includes 19-year-old winger Caroline Graham Hansen, who led Norway in qualifying with eight goals, and another 19-year-old, Lyon striker Ada Stolsmo Hegerberg, who scored five goals in qualifying.
- Thailand (FIFA Ranking: 29): Nisa Romyen leads Thailand in goals scored. She has 32 in only 47 caps. Romyen is fast and likes to slip in behind defenders. Thailand mostly plays a 4-5-1 or 5-3-2, a very defensively focused game. Midfielder Kanjana Sung-Ngoen was a critical piece of this formation in qualifying, scoring both goals in Thailand's 2-1 win over host Vietnam to get to Canada.
