Say what you will about the quality of the competition, but Clint Dempsey is on absolute fire right now. Just about 10 minutes after scoring his second goal against Cuba, Dempsey put the final touches on his first-ever international hat trick. Goal No. 3 was especially nice.
Dempsey made a winding run to get behind the defender and then took advantage of a poor defensive play to volley Michael Bradley's pass with the outside of his right foot. That was his sixth goal of this Gold Cup -- two more than anyone else -- and his 47th career goal for the United States, 10 fewer than all-time leader Landon Donovan. At this pace, Dempsey may catch Donovan sooner than anyone could have possibly expected.
