Seattle Sounders FC U23's last appearance in the PDL semifinal came in its first season after re-branding under the Sounders name from Tacoma Tide FC. The squad in the 2012 semifinal 3-2 loss to Forest City London included future members of the Sounders first team DeAndre Yedlin, Darwin Jones, and Doug Herrick. It also included a few players that are also on the current roster, including Herrick, Luis Esteves, and Mark Lee.
The current U23 roster includes 9 alumni from the Sounders Academy, all of whom are currently eligible to sign a Homegrown Player contract in MLS or a USL contract with S2.
The first semifinal begins at 6:00 PM at Starfire. The New York Red Bulls U23 faces Ocala Stampede, which is based in central Florida. NYRB U23 finished at the top of the PDL's Mid-Atlantic Division in the regular season before defeating GPS Portland Phoenix 4-0 and Jersey Express 2-1 after extra time to claim the Eastern Conference title. Ocala Stampede won the Southeast Division in the regular season and beat the Midland/Odessa Sockers 1-0 in the Southern Conference semifinal before winning the final 2-0 against FC Miami City Champions.
After the first game ends, Sounders U23 will meet K-W United FC, which is based in Ontario. K-W United finished second in the Great Lakes Division at the end of the regular season before beating Forest City London 2-0, Des Moines Menace 3-2, and defending PDL champions Michigan Bucks 3-1 to win the Central Conference championship. Sounders U23 finished third in the Northwest division before beating the Timbers U23 4-1, Burlingame Dragons FC 1-0, and FC Tucson 2-1 to win the Western Conference.
The winner of tonight's games will play for the 2015 PDL Championship at Starfire on Sunday afternoon.
