Seattle

The spotlight was certainly on the Sounders for their unfortunate loss to the Galaxy on Sunday. The match was watched on ESPN by 549,000 viewers, their largest MLS audience in 3 years. That was in addition to a record 183,000 viewers on ESPN Deportes.

In happier news, Roman Torres attended his first Sounders FC training yesterday. If you click through the slideshow, you will also be happy to see other heads to the hydra back at practice.

The Seattle Reign won their fourth match in a row and clinched a play-off spot with their 2-1 victory last night over the Houston Dash.

Frank Lampard is once again a game-time decision. NYCFC fans will have to wait until this evening to see if he'll manage to make his third appearance of the season.

Speaking of Expansion City FC, the upcoming team in LA is rumored to be seeking Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. The rumor comes from The Daily Mirror and unnamed sources, so make of it what you will.

Matt Weisgarber over at The Massive Report is wondering if it's really worthwhile to have two striker system or if one is enough. I guess he hasn't been watching recent Sounders matches...

US Open Cup

The US Open Cup semi-finals were last night and both matches were won by the home team. The Philadelphia Union held out for a 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire (recaps: Chicago | Philadelphia)

Sporting Kansas City had a more convincing victory over Real Salt Lake winning 3-1 in a game that was even farther apart than the scoreline indicated. (recaps: Salt Lake City | Kansas City)

Canadian Championship

The Amway Canadian Championship is not decided by a single match but by a home and away set. Vancouver Whitecaps drew the Impact 2-2 in Montreal. The two away goals will give them an advantage when they return home for the second leg.

USA

The schedule for the qualifying tournament for Olympic Women's soccer has been announced and will be played exclusively in Frisco and Houston Texas early next year.

US Soccer is attempting to trademark "Dos a Cero". Setting aside the fact that they are literally trying to trademark a scoreline, this seems like tempting fate to never allow the US to achieve that scoreline again.

World

Stoppage time goals are exciting. Stoppage time goals scored by goalkeepers are amazing. Stoppage time goals scored by a goalkeepers with a perfectly timed backheel are simply unbelievable.
