Today at 4:30 p.m. PT, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, and their U.S. teammates will kick off the first of two friendlies against Haiti, which are part of the team's 10-game World Cup victory tour. Today's match will air on FOX Sports 1, which will have a pre-game segment from 4:00 - 4:30. The second game against Haiti will be September 20 in Birmingham, Alabama (11:30 a.m. PT on ESPN2).
Haiti is ranked 63rd in the FIFA World Rankings. The USWNT was set to play a much tougher Australian side in these friendlies, but the Matildas are on strike after their contract expired and they were unable to negotiate a pay raise and resolve other concerns with their federation. The Australian women's team is paid $14,000 a year, and earned just $500 per match during the World Cup, when they made it all the way to the quarterfinals.
Today's match will feature one player who wasn't a member of the World Cup champion squad: NWSL Golden Boot winner Crystal Dunn, who scored 15 goals during the NWSL regular season and was called up for both friendlies. (As the lineups indicate below, Dunn will get the start tonight).
One other interesting note about today's match: this is the USWNT's 17th indoor game. The U.S. is 15-0-1 all-time indoors.
Lineups
Hope Solo gets the start in goal today, but don't expect to see Megan Rapinoe make an appearance. She will not be playing due to "minor muscle soreness." Let's all thank the soccer gods for preventing a Pinoe injury.
