Obafemi Martins joined the Seattle Sounders back in 2013. In parts of three seasons, he's already become the team's second-leading all-time scorer and will almost certainly break that record if he stays healthy in 2016.
But for all his contributions, we've never really gotten to know much about him. This interview with SoundersFC.com starts that process.
Some highlights:
On why he's moved around so much: "I want to finish my career and be able to tell my kids, 'I've been everywhere and scored wherever I play.'"
On his relative anonymity: "I like when people don't recognize me. You have to prove yourself to let them know. I think I prefer that."
On how long he thinks he'll play: "Probably until I get tired. For now, I'm still enjoying myself. As I get older, I enjoy it more."
Martins also gives the backstory of his signature celebration and shares that he'll likely move back to Africa when his playing days are done.
