This has not been a great year for Fredy Montero. The Sporting CP forward has found league minutes hard to come by, starting just five of 17 league games. Although he has scored three goals in Europa League action, the last one came about six weeks ago. Montero's last league goal came back in September.
That all changed on Sunday when Montero came off the bench to score the equalizer to help Sporting CP overcome a 2-0 deficit and Sporting Braga 3-2. The win helped Lisbon push their lead atop the Primeira League table to four points.
Montero's goal wasn't just any goal, either. It looked like the pass was actually intended for the runner at the far post and was possibly even a shot. But Montero stuck out his right foot, volleyed the pass to himself and put a perfect left-footed shot inside the near post. It was Montero's second league goal of the season and just his fifth overall.
