Marco Pappa's tenure with the Seattle Sounders appears to have ended on a pretty strange note. Some time in mid-December -- Pappa's trade was announced on Dec. 15 -- police were called to a South Lake Union apartment where Pappa was found with Miss Washington USA and a stab wound that required him to get surgery at Harborview Hospital, according to a King 5 report.
The details of the case, including how exactly Pappa received the wound, were not entirely clear. But Stormy Keffeler, who was crowned Miss Washington USA in October, reportedly changed her stories a couple times after police showed up and eventually stopped cooperating with them. Pappa, who suffered a stab wound in his abdomen, reportedly offered various versions of what happened as well.
Although not directly related, this news comes shortly after it was revealed that Keffeler had been arrested for driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of about three times the legal limit back in April. This information was apparently unknown to pageant officials, who are considering the possibility of removing her crown.
Pappa has had his own drunk-driving history, having been arrested in July and going through a league-mandated substance-abuse program. Pappa ended up missing five league games, but was able to work his way back into the regular rotation by the end of the season. Due a significant raise in 2016, the Sounders traded him to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for allocation money.
