On Wednesday the Seattle Sounders added to their midfield depth with the signing of MLS veteran Michael Farfan. He was available as a free agent after his option was declined by D.C. United. Last year he trialed with the Sounders.

Marfan (rather than his brother Gabriel Farfan, Garfan) spent the last two seasons as a midfield sub with starts as a left mid, right mid and central mid. With the Philadelphia Union in 2013 he was a regular starter, mostly as a CM. He only played 12 minutes for Cruz Azul, making the bench five times (all comps) and appearing only once. He did score in his Liga MX cup of coffee.

"We're excited to add an experienced and versatile player like Michael to our roster ahead of our upcoming preseason camp," said Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid via press release. "We think Michael can come in and provide experience, depth and competitiveness to our midfield and we look forward having him in the squad."

This will be his sixth year as a pro after being selected 23rd overall in the 2011 draft. The 27-year-old went to Cal State-Fullerton and the University of North Carolina.
