Watch all 40 of Clint Dempsey’s Sounders goals

New, comments

It’s a good reminder that Dempsey has been quite productive since signing in 2013.

We know we won’t see anymore Clint Dempsey goals this year. Heck, it’s at least a possibility that we’ll not see anymore ever. But it’s worth remembering that he’s been pretty darn productive during his somewhat limited time here.

Although he’s only been able to play in less than 60 percent of the potential league games since since signing in June 2013, Dempsey has bagged 40 goals in rave green across 86 matches in all competitions. He also has 22 assists, meaning he’s getting on the scoresheet in about 75 percent of his appearances.

Reddit user duhvahn even compiled a video of all 40 goals, which includes 34 in league play, three in the playoffs, two in CONCACAF Champions League and one in the U.S. Open Cup.

Of those 40 goals, eight came against the Portland Timbers — the most against any team. He also scored four against the Rapids and FC Dallas and three against Orlando City, Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy. Of the 19 MLS teams Dempsey faced — weirdly, he never played against the Chicago Fire or D.C. United while with the Sounders — he scored at least once against all but the Vancouver Whitecaps, Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo.

Those goals have included nine left-footed attempts, five penalties, four headers and three directly from free kicks.

Hopefully Dempsey will have a chance to add to that total, but this serves as a pretty good reminder that he was plenty productive when given the opportunity.
