(author's note: With no MLS games last weekend the weekly MLS gamethread took the week off.  Let's use that format today and use the second section to highlight Sounders in action around the world.)

Three Big Storylines:

  1. The USMNT let nine players return to their clubs after the 2-0 victory in Cuba, including Jordan Morris, and brought in seven new players for today's game against New Zealand.  Manager Jurgen Klinsmann has billed this game and the training leading up to it as a time to prove your case that you should be included in the roster for the Mexico game in Columbus and Costa Rica game away in November.
  2. Juan Agudelo and Terrence Boyd have returned to the national team after long hiatuses and will be eager to prove their case.  Agudelo is only 23 years old but has been out of the national team picture since his European transfer saga that saw him barely play for an extended period of time when a transfer to Stoke City fell through because of work permit issues.  Boyd has had catastrophic luck with injuries missing almost two years with back to back ACL tears.  Boyd has been with Red Bull Leipzig since summer of 2014 but only played seven matches in the fall of 2014 before the injuries and has recently returned to playing, but with the reserve side.
  3. Lynden Gooch was not one of the European based players to return to his club team and will be looking to make his full national team debut.  Gooch played for Ireland's U18 team and the USA's U20 team.  Gooch remains eligible for Ireland, the USA and England.  The 20 year old has earned four starts and one sub appearance for Sunderland this year making him the youngest American not named Pulisic to break into a major European league's starting lineup in memory.

From a Sounders Point of View:

The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) is playing very important games during the FIFA date.  This is the third and final round of Caribbean Cup Qualifying.  There are 12 teams left after the first two rounds, divided into four groups of three.  Each country plays a home and an away game and only the group winner from those two games advance to the Caribbean Cup next June.  A spot in the Caribbean Cup also guarantees a spot in next summer's Gold Cup.  The three best second place teams will contest a playoff using the same three team two games each format for the right to play the 5th place team from Central America for a spot in the 2017 Gold Cup.

Joevin Jones and Trinidad and Tobago travel to Martinique in a winner takes all game.  T&T beat Dominican Republic 4-0 on October 5th in Trinidad while Martinique won 2-1 in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic to set up this showdown.  The game is at 5 PM, Pacific Time, no TV.

Oniel Fisher and Damion Lowe's qualification route with Jamaica is more complicated because their match on October 5th home against Suriname was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew.  Today Jamaica will travel to South America to play Guyana as Jamaica were drawn with two of the South American teams that play in CONCACAF.  The game is at 5 PM, Pacific Time, no TV.

Nico Lodeiro is not with Uruguay (FIFA Rank 9) as they travel to Colombia (FIFA Rank 4) in a CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifier (1:30 PM, beIN Sports).  Lodeiro received a yellow card on Friday in Uruguay's 3-0 win over Venezuela and misses the match due to Yellow Card Accumulation.  Lodeiro will be available and is expected to start tomorrow for the Seattle Sounders.  Uruguay sit atop CONMEBOL qualifying with 19 points through 9 matches played.  Colombia is third with 16 points.
