Sounders will preseason in Tucson, again

MLS: Preseason-Seattle Sounders FC vs New England Revolution Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Even as the 2016 season marches on, Seattle Sounders FC are making plans to begin their 2017 campaign. They will once again head down to Tucson for a portion of their 2017 preseason to take part in the Desert Friendlies as one of seven MLS clubs participating, along with Portland Timbers, Sporting Kansas City, San Jose Earthquakes, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake, and a final team to be announced later.

Similar to last year, Seattle will play Portland in another Cascadia Cup clash friendly sometime between January 27th and February 7th, though the final date has not yet been determined. While the Sounders matches will be a part of the overall event, they will not be playing as part of the Desert Diamond Cup competition, which is held a few weeks after the friendlies portion.

This will be the fifth year the sounders have participated in at least some part of FC Tucson’s tournament, where they took first place in 2013. We will pass along more details as they are announced.
