For Schmetzer campaign poster Susie Rantz

Friends,

I come to you today asking you for a simple thing - a loud thing. I come today asking you to sing, asking you to clap, asking you to scream as you’ve never screamed. I come asking you to stand for a Full 90. I come asking you to dance.

This Sounders nation needs your voice. Our nation needs to hear you.

On Sunday the fate of a team, and its future, is on the line. Either it — no we —- can go onward and forward; Or the hard work of the past nine months can be for nothing.

For we are these very Sounders. It is what makes us, us. We are hard work, dedication. We are playing through a broken foot. We are the doubted, the never rated. We are the skilled, the willing to build something that history will look back upon with fond eyes.

We are Sounders.

Born of sea and sky, carved from peaks and pine, we Sounders unified behind common cause fell mighty timber, flood the highest hills. We Sounders laugh at false royalty, at tiny ripples on rivers, at angry red of bulls and toros. We see a universe in front of us and legends are our foundations.

Those legends live among us. They walk the sideline. There will be legends on the bench. There is the mighty god on our field and our born son on his way to greatness. All of these active legends seek righteousness and a future. These legends will remain potent and powerful for as long as their stories are heard.

Together we People of the Sound unite under common banners of green and blue. Together our 50,000 strong voices raise high for a nation to hear. Together we are mighty.

So, friends, I ask a few things of you today. I ask again for your voices. I ask for primal screams, for songs of unity, for a boom, a boom and a clap that rattles the poor souls of an opponent. These things I ask, I do not ask for me.

I ask you to shout from the highest decks to the field. I ask for us to join together under common cause, with common goal. I ask for all of you to be heard.

Today is our time. It is the time of Seattle. It is the time to look to the past. This is the time to take the roots of the mighty Rainier-Tahoma and have them shake from your voice. Our past may be in front of us, it is also a way to the future. Those chalices won over decades prior need not be sweet memories. They can be the appetizer for a grander meal.

On this day there must be a cacophony. On this day there must be a noise like none other. On this day you can declare “We are Sounders, mighty Sounders.”

This declaration is that we are not content. Our goals are strong and unified behind a leader of men. Past and present merge with a future strong and ready. Vote with your voices.

My friends, I come to you today asking you for a simple thing - a loud thing. I come today asking you to sing, asking you to clap, asking you to scream as you’ve never screamed. I come asking you to stand for a Full 90. I come asking you to dance.

For Schmetzer, For Scott, For Our Past and For Our Future.

This is our Sound.
You will hear us.
