In front of an amped crowd of 50,000 or so, the Seattle Sounders will attempt to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs - again. This Sunday’s 1 PM kickoff will mark the third straight match Seattle could ensure qualification for the postseason. Their rivals, Real Salt Lake, are at the end of a six-game winless streak. Sounders have only lost twice under coach Brian Schmetzer. Both teams can qualify with a win, but even a loss does not end their hopes for a Cup run.
Today is Zach Scott’s final regular season match as a Sounder. It could also be Brian Schmetzer’s last game as their head coach. A win means more time for both of them, a chance at a trophy and a statement to MLS that even when the Sounders are down, they are never, ever out.
Baldemaro Toledo is the center ref — his 223rd MLS match. Clint Dempsey is still out due to a heart issue. Dylan Remick will miss today’s match with a concussion. Andreas Ivanschitz is out with a knee sprain. Oalex Anderson, Brad Evans and Nelson Haedo Valdez are all listed as questionable. Real Salt Lake are without Emery Welshman, Aaron Maund and Jeff Attinella. Yura Movsisyan is probable.
