Hilario Grajeda named head ref in leg two of the Western Conference Semifinals

Grajeda has only been the center ref in two Sounders games this year.

San Jose Earthquakes v Portland Timbers

Your Seattle Sounders head to Frisco, TX to take on FC Dallas in the second leg of their Western Conference Semifinal clash this coming Sunday night. The Sounders know what needs to be done in order to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

They now know who will be in charge of leg two: Hilario Grajeda. He will be joined by Jonathan Johnson (AR1), Adam Garner (AR2) and Juan Guzman (4th).

The first four months of the season, the Sounders didn’t see Grajeda at all in any capacity as an official. The first time we saw him was on July 24, 2016. For those of you that may have forgotten, that was Sigi Schmid’s last match he was in charge for the Sounders. He had no influence on the game as he was the 4th official.

His first game as the man in the center came in interim-head coach Brian Schmetzer’s first lost, a 4-2 defeat to our little brothers to the South. In that game, he called a total of 27 fouls with 16 going against the Sounders. He also issued four yellow cards in that match, all to Sounders.

Grajeda was in Seattle as the main referee in the Sounders 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire on Sept. 28. He called a total of 31 fouls, with just 12 of those called on the Sounders. He did issue two yellow cards, one to each team. The one he gave to the Sounders went to Nicolas Lodeiro which caused him to be suspended for the Vancouver match.

He has officiated 17 games this season. He has called a total of 382 fouls, issued 49 yellow cards and handed out four red cards.
