Matchday 10 for the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying features two Seattle Sounders players. Nicolas Lodeiro and Uruguay are in a top of table battle with Ecuador. Nelson Haedo Valdez and Paraguay are playing for their lives facing fellow bottom-half team Peru.

Uruguay is second in CONMEBOL, behind Brazil. La Celeste are 6-2-2 +14. Opponent Ecuador stands at third with their 5-3-2 +4 record. Both are currently likely to go to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Lodeiro remains a key player to the Uruguay offense, when he’s not getting yellow cards. Feeding Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez the ball gives Lodeiro plenty of space and opportunity for magic.

Paraguay and Peru are on the outside looking up. Just 7th La Albirroja are 4-3-3 -2 and need a win over a weak La Blanquirroja (8th, 3-5-2 -3) to keep their dreams alive. Valdez is in the stage of his career where he is drifting in and out of the Paraguay roster. While on the squad for the Copa America he was an infrequent sub, a role he will likely resume as he returns to World Cup Qualifying.
