Last Friday, the Tacoma Stars (1-0) took a quick jaunt down I-5 to faceoff against the Turlock Express (0-1) in their second MASL match of the season.
Turlock started the scoring early in the first quarter as they nabbed two quickfire goals. Tacoma answered by seizing two goals of their own keeping level after a quarter of play.
Turlock opened the second quarter with another goal. The Stars responded with the first goal of the year for Alex Megson. Megson, a new signing in 2016, is the son of former Tacoma Stars legend, Neil Megson. Neil played with Stars in the MISL from 1983-1992, and hopefully this marks the start of another legendary Stars career for the Megson clan.
The Stars went into halftime with a 4-3 lead, but the Express rallied to make it 6-4 after the third quarter. The fourth quarter brought forth another goal for each side, but that third quarter rally by the Express left Tacoma with too great a gap to overcome.
Despite taking their first loss of the season and starting the season 1-1, the Stars did see wonderful performances from Jamael "Juice" Cox who continued his fine run of form and brought his goal total to four on the year.
Up Next
The Tacoma Stars return home to the Showare Center in Kent this Saturday, November 12th to face the Ontario Fury (1-1) at 6:05pm. Fans will remember that last season the two sides met up in their regular season finales, and the Stars would go on to clinch a playoff birth thanks to the efforts of Mike Ramos and company.
This game marks the second for the Stars without their head coach, Darren Sawatzky, who remains with the Guam National Team as they compete in the EAFF East Asian Cup. However, despite missing their coach, with so many returning players on both teams this season, this matchup looks to be one for the ages!
