Make of it what you will, but the math is starting to really like the Seattle Sounders’ chances. According to ESPN’s Soccer Power Index projections, the Sounders are favorites against the Colorado Rapids and have a 27 percent chance to win the MLS Cup.

If you’re anything like me, right about now you’re asking yourself “How is it that the Sounders are favored over the Rapids, but the Rapids have a slightly better chance at winning MLS Cup?” The answer is pretty simple: If the Rapids beat the Sounders, they’ll host the MLS Cup final. The Sounders, on the other hand, would either visit TFC or host the Montreal Impact.
Still, a 27 percent chance of winning it all seems pretty darn good considering this was a team that was hovering around 5 percent of simply making the playoffs a few months ago.
