Clint Dempsey’s future is still very much in doubt. That’s the thing with heart-related issues, they are fine until they aren’t.
Still, it’s at least encouraging that Dempsey is giving every impression that he intends to come back. We’ve seen him at training several times over the past month or so and has joined to the team in Toronto for MLS Cup.
Now this:
Bruce Arena told me he talked to Clint Dempsey and wants to bring him into January camp, hopefully get him fit for WCQs. #USMNT

The United States national team’s next round of World Cup qualifiers is in late March, meaning Dempsey also seems to think he’d be ready around the time the Seattle Sounders kick off the 2017 season.
Either way, it sounds like we’re going to have a better idea of Dempsey’s future prognosis no later than the January training camp. That’s roughly in line with the Sounders’ previously announced timeline, as they said they’d next be offering an update in early 2017.
