We are under a week away from the Seattle Sounders playing in their first ever MLS Cup Final this Saturday, Dec. 10 at BMO Field against Toronto FC. The Mayor of Tukwila, Allan Ekberg, signed a proclamation Monday naming this coming Saturday Seattle Sounders FC Spirit Day.

In the proclamation, the Mayor strongly encourages all community members to join him in cheering on the Sounders in MLS Cup Final. He also encouraged all community members to wear their Sounders attire and colors as they support their hometown team.

The Sounders have used the City of Tukwila as their training grounds at Starfire Sports since their inception. They have hosted numerous Lamar Hunt US Open Cup games during the Sounders four championship runs.

It’s always nice when cities get behind their local teams and do special things for them leading up to their championship games. The Sounders have been an integral part of Tukwila since 2008 and, as Mayor Ekberg mentions, has provided provided strong, positive role models for the young people of Tukwila.

Things would be much better if we could get the Sounders flag flying at the top of the Space Needle this week.
