This is the first-ever meeting between the Seattle Sounders and Club America, historically Mexico's best team and the defending CONCACAF Champions League winners. The Sounders are playing their first competitive match of the season, while Club America has gone 3-1-3 +5 and currently sits fourth in the Liga MX table.
Club America is coming off a wild 3-3 tie with Cruz Azul in which they blew a two-goal lead after getting a pair of red cards and have two players leave early due to injury. That game was a bit of a mixed bag from the Sounders' perspective, though, as the red cards were to top offensive players Darwin Quintero and Oribe Peralta, who will almost certainly now start both legs.
