A Sounder finally enters Player of Week conversation

Mike Russell Foto

In a day or so I'll need to enter my vote for the MLS Player of the Week in SB Nation Soccer's weekly polling. In that poll we get a vote for first, second and third. Our votes are public. This week is the first time I'm considering voting for a Sounder, but not for first.

My first place vote will go to Kaka. That's simple - two assists and a goal in a blowout win over the Timbers gets that.

But for the two spots I'm a bit torn. I have four players for second and third.

Osvaldo Alonso

He's in MLSSoccer.com's Team of the Week. He had nine tackles, three interceptions, a key pass, six accurate long balls and he completed 93% of his 71 passes, most in the game. He was nearly the Alonso that he was when he earned a season long Best XI.

Laurent Ciman

He limited all of Seattle's attack, which may not be great considering everyone's doing that, but Ciman shut down the air game and the ground game of Seattle. Ciman won three aerial duels with five interceptions. The '15 Defender of the Year showed what he can do.

Justin Meram

The only other one of my possibilities mentioned on MLSs Team of Week, Meram had the goal that put the Crew up on the road against Dallas. Though Columbus eventually tied the Iraqi took four shots, won a couple aerial duels, and had six tackles as a left attacking midfielder.

Luke Mulholland

Efforty midfield performance with an assist. Surrounded by a team that needed two emergency callups from their USL side Luke had two key passes, three shots, and three tackles in just thirty touches. That's a great impact for someone who had to slot into the CAM for RSL.

Which of these had the second best performance of the week?
