Still in their season West Ham United and the Seattle Sounders announced a friendly match for 7:30 PM Pacific on July 5th. The game will be on JOEtv and 97.3 FM Seattle and is already part of the season ticket package, as well as the half season package known as "Sea of Green."
This will be
a full stadium match a standard capacity match with season ticket holders getting a presale offer today. Tickets will be on sale to the general public on May 12th.
West Ham is sixth with a match to play. At this time they would go to the Europa League with a tiny shot at making the Champions League qualifying rounds. There is also small shot that they miss European play.
"We are eager to welcome West Ham United to Seattle this summer," said Sounders FC Owner Adrian Hanauer via press release. "Our club has a history of playing host to exciting international clubs, and with West Ham currently enjoying one of its best seasons in recent memory, we think this is a matchup both sets of fans can enjoy."
While the Irons are not the powerhouses like Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur that visited in the past they offer a live look at a team that is regaining its standing among England's best. Seattle has struggled in midseason friendlies earning a poor 2-5-2 record including many blowouts. Their only "points" in a friendly against an EPL side was the 3-3 draw against Tottenham.
Friendlies are not about wins and losses. They are about the show. This show should be fun. Tyrone Mears will face his former team. Sounders legends Redknapp, Hurst and Moore all have connections to West Ham as well.
Again, this ticket is part of your season ticket package. The match occurs on a week when the Sounders are home after a flight back from Toronto.
